Nothing personal, just business

I have a business proposal for you, Mr. Dershowitz.

Let's deal with the money issues first. For your professional services, each palestinian will pay you one dollar and so will each pro-palestinian activist in the planet, if you succeed. Otherwise, sorry but you won't see a dime. Of course, in the end you're entitled to decline the payment and redirect it to charity, if you deem appropriate.

The task won't be easy, I'm affraid. It will be your responsability to manage the negotiations with Israel, on behalf of the palestinian people. You're expected to, as a bright professional, do your best to defend your constituents rights. It will be a demanding task, but I'm sure you'll give your israeli opponents a hell of a fight. From the Balfour abusive declaration to today's apartheid regime, you'll easily find abundant material as proof of persistent denial of your constituents self-determination rights.

Before handing you the task, however, I'm affraid I'll have to ask you to publicly describe the strategy you intend to follow to achieve the final goal, which is the establishment of an independent and viable palestinian state, side-by-side with Israel. No, no, sorry but a simple diagram drawn in the sand won't do. Unfortunately, many of the co-sponsors of this project unfairly doubt your capability. So, they demand a full description of a credible strategy before investing their precious dollar.

You could begin by the moral values at stake. An easy introduction which will certainly stimulate your reasoning before you get to the tough issues. And you know those tough issues... Settlements, water, territorial contiguity and the fine details of border definition, Jerusalem, the refugees ( don't forget to take into account that we're talking about a total figure of roughly 8 million persons, 4 million in the ghettos and 4 more in the neighbouring countries ) ...
Oh, and don't forget to include a paragraph or two on the security guarantees you believe Israel should provide. We don't want the new country to be invaded every six months, do we ?

Do you feel up to the task, Mr. Dershowitz ?
